I had my op in mid-April, (I’m exactly 8 weeks post-op) and I am still getting dry flaky skin around my scar (vertical incision.) It is raised in a ridge along where it was sutured and has a little squiggle at the bottom. It still looks red, but is not painful at all. I haven’t noticed any numb bits yet.

I have found my energy is returning, and I…[Read more]

WomblessWendy, I had best explain, the 3 dates. I was first given 24th March, which was too soon, as I had to see my gynae before the op and that appointment was in April. So *I* was the one who cancelled that. The earliest Appointment they could give me was 16 May. I wasn’t great with that as I had been told Aptil by my gynae but I went along…[Read more]

Hi Nicki, hope you are recovering well, but 7 hours under and so much work…sounds like your recovery may take a tad longer than usual. Enjoy the rest, you have earned it.

WomblessWendy, I think you will be a happier person post surgery, but the difference is individual. I felt different, in a good way, within an hour of waking up, and finding…[Read more]

Hi WomblessWendy, I’m from the April Flowers, but was almost a May Marigold till a phone call from the hospital from out of the blue offered me April 21st and I jumped for it with both hands!

I too have had a lot of issues with my piece of, as my friend calls it, “defunct technology” which gave me heavier and heavier periods every few years or…[Read more]

Yorkshire1pud – I think moving your feet and legs about should help reduce the risk. If you are still concerned, get someone to go to Boots or somewhere that do flight socks or compression stockings and get them to grab you a pair. Were you given exercises to do? I was told to, while sitting down, flex and relax my ankles 30 times every hour, and…[Read more]

Yorkshire1pud, I am amazed that you were send home so early, I was in hospital for 5 days (although one of those I insisted on, so my friends who were coming in every day and bringing me stuff could have a day’s break.)

Why do you think hospital visiting hours are usually no longer than 2 hours each session, usually twice a day, separated by at…[Read more]

    Hi Orlando,

Glad to hear you enjoyed the wine, and for myself, as it was a month yesterday since I bid my uterus goodbye, (and I couldn’t do this yesterday due to prior commitments) I am sending it off with a small glass of wine, and oddly enough, that’s Pinot Grigio too. It’s just me saying “thanks for the memories, uterus, thanks for being…[Read more]

Andichappers1 – I get the ‘twanging’ as well although I am 10 days behind you. Feels like my scar is taut if I do too much, and get occasional aches in the groin. Plus a coming and going ache further up on the right that is likely to do more with my food than my procedure.

Happy birthday to your partner today and you on Monday. I turn 42 on…[Read more]

Aussiescottiej…I would report his ass if I were you. Freely admits he’s not a gynae, but he talks as if he had the authority. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. And basic pain relief and a temporary sleep aid should not be beyond him! Is there another GP you could go to in your practice for a second opinion?

    I…[Read more]

Stellamaris and Pocket-Rocket, good luck for tomorrow.

Lisa-Jayne and Yorkshire1pud, I hope your journey to the Done Couch was smooth and with little to no turbulence. Lawn back and relax, the more you rest, the less likely you are to overdo it and delay your recovery. (That also applies to you other ladies who are on the Done Couch this month…[Read more]

    Hi Vicki,

I also have a vertical scar down the middle of my belly, it’s not pretty, but personally, I prefer it to losing so much blood every month like I used to. I had to wear heavy grade incontinence knickers and change them every 4 hours, or the bed/chair I sat in looked like a murder scene!

I have it on good authority that my scar will fade…[Read more]

My best wishes for you Sam for tomorrow.

And my best wishes for the hyster twins to be Yorkshire1pud and LisaJayne 25 for Friday.

I’m sure the rest of the May Marigolds will shuffle up on the Done Couch to give you room for a gentle and comfy landing.

    All the best!

    Hi Orlando,

I looked up focal adenomyosis and apparently it’s on the endometriosis spectrum. It’s relatively common, and. An present in women diagnosed with endpdometriosis, and even those not. It’s a patch of endometrial tissue in the uterine wall. And it’s described as ‘benign’ so no cancer risk there.

    Hope this helps.

Aussiescottiej,mI am getting pain in the upper right ofmy abdomen…which should NOT be anything to do with your hysterectomy.

    Doesn’t stop us worrying though…

Go to your GP and get it checked.

Sam- my thoughts are with you.

Rkmcdaniel – I treated myself to some new bras yesterday from Marks and Spencer. Being rather a ‘large lady’ (E cup) it was a delight to find they did full support non underwires bras for ladies below, of, and above my size. Up to a G I believe. And not just in white, black, or beige.

Tell whoever it is that you could have over 200 stitches inside you. It takes longer to heal inside and out, and that s/he should maybe be asking your consultant these questions. Plus, does s/he know what do do if you rupture your stitches and where the nearest A&E is? Will s/he take you there in his/her car or call an ambulance? Perhaps advise…[Read more]

    Sam,

Is there any way you could co-ordinate with the others you work with in the kitchen to switch tasks for a while, so they lift while you do something else less physically gruelling? If they are understanding, it might still mean you can work while still not jeopardising your recovery.

And I would advise you to suggest your boss Google “major…[Read more]

I’m not sure if BSO is taking ovaries or not? I know the ‘s’ is for salpingdectomy, the removal of the Fallopian tubes, which happened to me, they took my womb and Fallopian tubes (as I guess it’s daft to leave them just hanging around like used socks with less function than used socks) but, as I requested, left me my ovaries as I am…[Read more]
